Bees have always been a patron insect to me and to my work. Symbolically, the bee has been considered conduit between the spiritual and the divine, and her honey has been called the nectar of the gods - a reminder that through the soul’s hard work, we can experience deep mystical knowledge.

This art is part of a series of pairs of embroideries and paintings that was inspired by the 2022-23 Mars retrograde in Gemini. I found that using a needle (the tiniest sword - associated with Mars) was a helpful way to work with the sharpness that was in the air at the time. In homage to the Gemini twins, I created a small painted companion piece to the embroidery.
